Best Exterminators was started in 1981 by Henry Edward Best, Jr. (known by Ed in the industry), and his wife, Betty Best. Ed decided he wanted to make pest control his career. In 1967, when interviewed for his first job, the local company had no openings and was not looking to hire anyone. But before Ed left their office he was hired, and the rest is history.
From there, Ed and his wife went to a little Southern town and ran several companies. This was at the time when you paid $5.00 to have your house sprayed each month. How times have changed! As the years went on, Ed and Betty had two children. They moved to California where at the age of 28, Ed managed Terminix International Pest Control. Betty stayed home and took care of the kids. After receiving hands-on experience by supervising a multi-corporation, managing the Southern section of California, undergoing fumigations for termites, eradication of pest and rodent control in commercial and residential areas, Ed and Betty opened their first Pest and Termite business in 1974, called Mighty Bug Extermiantors. Yes, with the name Mighty Bug, California has rubbed off on these two Southern kids, Ed was 28 and Betty was 26. They ran their business out of their home while their family grew to three children. Not only did Ed become a licensed operator in California, he encouraged Betty and she became one of the first ladies to become an operator in California.
Time went on, and Ed and Betty were getting homesick for the South, and wanted to raise their three children in a close-knit town where everyone knew each other. They moved back to Louisiana in 1981 thinking they were going to retire. Little did they know you do not retire at 35 and 33 years of age. Retirement didn't last but 3 months, when they bought out a local company that had been established for 20 years. They ran this company for 10 years out of their home in that quaint little town of Downsville; they had envisioned while living in California.
Working hard, they expanded their business and moved into West Monrose for their first office. The company was still growing and a second office was opened in 1994 in Ruston. Ed and Betty restructured this small company from a local company to dominate working force that is a household name from the Mississippi, Arkansas, and Texas borders. Best Exterminators is now expanding their business to service the Shreveport area. This project will be a major advancement, keep a look out on our web page for future updates. There is an accumulated 48 years of professional service to Louisiana through this company.
Best Exterminators is a family owned business now with Ed, Betty, and Jcob our son ( one of the youngest in the state of Louisiana to become a licensed operator). Our daughter and daughter-in-law also work in the operations of the business. All of our office staff and employees are close like family. One day our goal is to retire (we do know it will not be in our 30's) and pass this on to our children and grandchildren.
